Location selected for MacLaren School
At long last, we are delighted to announce that MacLaren School will initially be located inside Pulpit Rock Church at 303 Austin Bluffs Parkway. It is a great starting place for MacLaren for a host of reasons, including its convenient location at the corner of North Nevada and Austin Bluffs, its ample classroom space, and its reasonable rental rate. We anticipate staying at this location for one to three years, until we are able to afford a long-term location of our own.
Our leasing space from Pulpit Rock Church does not change MacLaren’s status as a non-religious public charter school. It is both legal and somewhat common for charter schools to rent space in churches or religious buildings early in their development. For instance, Cesar Chavez Academy, Colorado Springs Charter Academy and Rocky Mountain Classical Academy have all done so. It makes good business sense for charter schools and churches to use church classroom space that would otherwise sit empty during the school week.
At Pulpit Rock, there is ample parking, space outside where students will be able to run around, and good multi-purpose rooms for things like MacLaren’s orchestra program, lunch, and computer lab. In short, we believe you will be as excited as we are once you tour the facility for yourself.
