MacLaren was notified at the end of October 2023 of a student data breach that occurred with one of our vendors, Illuminate Education, which MacLaren uses to track students’ academic progress. Illuminate suffered a data security incident between the dates of December 28, 2021, and January 8, 2022. This was a nationwide breach: nearly every school district using this product was involved, including many in Colorado.
The school made every effort to notify affected families, who also received official notification explaining this breach in more detail from Illuminate Education through the U.S. mail.
After investigating the breach, it was discovered that the affected databases contained student names, date of birth, internal school identification numbers, and enrollment status. The data did not include any data related to Special Education, Social Security numbers, or any contact information such as physical address.
As a service to impacted families, Illuminate Education is offering 12 months of complimentary identify protection services through IDX at no cost. Impacted families received a written letter from Illuminate Education with a code to take advantage of this service, as well as additional information on this incident.
