Oral Exams

At the end of the academic year, Upper School students take an oral examination. The questions and topics covered are taken from the subjects studied that year. Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students have a general examination that ranges across most of their subjects. Ninth through twelfth grade students participate in a humanities oral which covers material from the Humane Letters Seminar. Students are expected to prepare well for oral exams. They are given directions such as study questions or discussion starters to help them.

Students are expected to study for their exam at home using the Oral Exam Study Guides available below. Faculty prepare students over the final weeks in oral exam expectations.

During the first weeks of May, the Oral Exam Schedule is sent to each family, posted at school, and available via a link in the Friday Folder.

  • Each exam is 30 minutes long.
  • Students need to arrive 10 minutes early in uniform.
  • Our end of year check-out process occurs at the same time as the oral exam. For this reason, a parent or guardian needs to attend the oral exam with the student.
